WPT Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic 2009, Day 4
CEO "Rocket Boy" 12.17.2009

From Four Tables to Two
Of the 36 players who started day 4, nine ended their run with nothing to show for it. Only 27 get paid, which is slighly top-heavy, as this represents only 8.2% of the 329 total players. Emeline Boich, the last woman and probably the oldest of the remaining players, was knocked out in 31st place. Hasan Habib was this event's cash bubble boy, busting in 28th.

Several of the chip leaders from day 3 either busted or lost significant portions of their stacks. Scotty Nguyen manged to fold pocket 10s when another player moved in for barely more than 10% of Scotty's 2 million-plus stack. Scotty then fairly rapidly doubled up Faraz Jaka and Mike Sowers, and ended the day with just 339K. He is now 15th of 16 players, and only Lee Salem is shorter stacked.

Antonio Esfandiari was knocked out in 23rd when he was apparently caught bluffing with A6 vs. John Juanda's KK. Juanda is now 4th in chips. Daniel Alaei was yesterday's chip leader, but despite chipping up today, he has dropped to a fairly close 3rd place. Faraz Jaka's double through Scotty Nguyen launched him into 2nd place, and the current leader is Kurt Kohlberg, who doubled up early and won several large pots during the day's play.

Needless to say, the field is incredibly tough. It's going to be interesting to see which of the established pros and which of the new generation will make it to the final table and beyond to the TV six. We'll find out soon enough. Play resumes tomorrow at 12 noon local time, and it will end when we have our final six.

An unbelievably tough table including Arieh, Esfandiari, Salem, Batista, Juanda, Arieh, and Makhija

Another tough table with Hershler, Kohlberg, Buchanan, and Nguyen
